IS HAVING A BOYFRIEND / GIRLFRIEND A SIN?

Romans 12:2, 2 Timothy 2:22

_”And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2_

BRO. PAUL, I LOVE THIS GIRL. CAN I HAVE HER AS MY GIRLFRIEND?

These are real questions young people ask me almost every week.

Let me answer you with love and with truth.

Personally, I do not believe in importing the practices of the world into our Christian faith.

Let’s be honest.

In today’s world, what does boyfriend / girlfriend mean?

For 90% of this generation, it means:

– We are dating.

– We are kissing.

– We are having sex.

– We are sleeping together.

– We can break up anytime.

Is that what God wants for His children?

When a system is generally known to produce sexual immorality, defilement, distraction and heartbreak — why is the Church in a hurry to copy it?

The Bible says: Flee fornication. Flee youthful lusts. — 1 Cor 6:18, 2 Tim 2:22

It did not say manage it. It says FLEE.

Now, does that mean you cannot have a friend who is a sister?

Of course you can! You MUST have godly friends.

That brother can be your friend. That sister can be your friend. But friendship must have BOUNDARIES, PURPOSE and PURITY.

My concern is not just the LABEL — it is what the relationship REPRESENTS, what it ENCOURAGES, and where it is *LEADING YOU TO.

Ask yourself:

1. Does this relationship draw me closer to Jesus or farther from Him?

2. Can I introduce this person to my pastor with boldness?

3. Is this relationship leading to MARRIAGE or leading to SIN?

4. If Jesus comes tonight, will He meet me in this relationship without shame?

If you cannot answer these well — that relationship will destroy your destiny.

Listen to me, young person:

You don’t need a boyfriend or girlfriend to be fulfilled. You need JESUS to be fulfilled.

When you have Jesus, you have everything. When you don’t have Jesus, even if you have 10 boyfriends or girlfriends, you are empty.

And when the time comes for marriage, do it well:

Prayerfully.

With purpose.

Not in secret.

Not with sexual touching.

Through godly counsel and through your church’s marriage committee.

Don’t enter a relationship that will make you lose your fire, lose your virginity, lose your focus, and lose your God.

Not every relationship that feels good is good for your soul.

The Church must not conform to the world.

The world must conform to the Church.

Let us return to godly, pure, purposeful relationships that honour God.

Maran atha!
